Department Responsibilities
The White Pine County Road Department has approximately 2,000 miles of roads on its inventory; of which, 1,000 miles are classified as standard county roads qualifying them to be gas tax-eligible and maintained. Of those 1,000 miles of road, approximately 125 center line miles are paved.
The Road Department is not only responsible for maintaining and repairing our own vehicles and equipment, but also vehicles from other county departments.
Goals
The goal of the Road Department is to provide safe routes of travel. The level of maintenance is limited by funding, however, public safety is always a priority year round regardless of weather conditions. Emergencies are first in priority with school routes, mail routes, towns, and subdivisions next in line. Outlying areas with sparse populations are last.
